It has been a wild bull market so far this year. It looks a lot like the last blast before Apple rolled over to me. New business is going well so far. Very busy but still looking in and trying to keep up on the news and the markets. Keep up the good work everyone.

Hi Fredw, Mt. Gox has a short statement on the Dwolla thing, basically they haven't seen it but have heard about it. tptb really don't like bitcoin :) or PM's too much. Morning Kev - I'm personally not a Bitcoin fan , but the issue is how control fraud tactics have been employed to destroy it ( therefore , i have kept an open mind since if the PTBs seek to destroy something , it's because they fer it for a good reason. ) Russia talks a good game but often doesn't follow through ( similar to Germany regarding conservative financial principles , US regarding torture / Gitmo / Obama regarding transparency and basically everything he campaigned on... ) JGB keeping getting banged higher as yields keep rising - sooner or later this becomes a problem..... Some things for the day.... Out the door !

Morning Kev and NW - have been noticing much more solar activity lately , a number of X flares ( i think three recently. ) The good news is none of the flares and / or CME have been earth directed ( I believe I'm correct on this point. ) The CIA rebels seem to be even worse than the crazies running Libya , Japan and nukes ( especially with Japan's present leadership ) is a bad idea - especially if they want the bomb to have a deterrent for China's military threats ! JGBs have been moving wider ( took a break last night ) , Irish Banks ( like Reggie M has been screaming from the rooftops ) will go boom again !

Assad is holding his own - it remains to be seen what he does though if Israel unleashes another bombing run on Syrian sites - Assad cannot continue to allow Israel attacks to go on without a response , yet he knows that striking back at Israel opens the door to foreign intervention on a grander style ( meaning not just Israel sorties but US bombing runs and drone attacks. )

Hi Fredw, I imagine that Syria will strike back if attacked again, if it comes to that then they will need to make it a major strike and not hold anything back. Might as well launch everything because it's going to be full blown war even if they just lob a firecracker back. They have plenty of justification already and if reports of Israeli special forces helping the mercs out are true then I would think they are already making plans and lining up allies.

PM action was very interesting - despite the early attack during Asian trading , ( silver down to about 20.25 , gold down to 1338 ) , you saw the rapid buying that overwhelmed the smash down ! I will be curious to see what damage was inflicted on Comex registered and eligible inventories , as well as the GLD and SLV ETFs ! Could be the buying had been waiting for another big sale opportunity and caught the Cartel shorts selling massive paper contracts which might have resulted in another massive denuding of physical ! Maybe ......ABN AMRO halting all physical delivery of gold and providing cash settlement effective April 1 - announced around March 24 , 2013 didn't make the evening news cut....Rothchild's HKMEx announcing on 5/19 it was ceasing trading effective immediately with cash settlement on Monday 5/20 of all contracts - not a peep...
Granted , neither HKMEX nor ABN AMRO had customer accounts stolen like MF Global - but we now have two recent situations where cash settlement was the only option given to customers / traders / investors....Not to far a stretch that such a choice could be forced on customers / traders / investors elsewhere.....

Okay, the Japanese bonds do seem to be having an effect (despite the still really low yield) and surprisigly the pm's are up this morning, maybe the shorts are more heavily margined than the longs, maybe there's a sell bonds and buy pm's factor.

But the japanese stock market has acted as frantic as a crack head running a marathon..... it rana number of miles at an incredible pace and then last night just fell out dead ( for a night . ) The impact of theJGB market shouldn't be undersold - what happens to the JGB , impacts the banks considerably and at some point it would be expressed in the japanese stock market. And when such expressions occur , they come without warning and are brutal- a 9 percent intraday swing is brutal ! What remains to be seen i how many swallows we see in the days to come....

Gold and silver are hanging in so far - despite the Japan market crash and sharp sell offs in stocks generally. However , just like yesterday , caution has to be utilized in looking at anything prior to the 8:30 Comex open in NY , before margin calls come through after the global stock routs and JGB debacle , we have to consider a replay of manipulations at the time of the London close at 11am EST .....But in light of everything going on so far , the PMs are hanging in there....

Washington State's main north/south interstate freeway I-5 had a bridge collapse into thr Slagit river this evening in Mount Vernon,hometown of Glen Beck.

ReplyDeletePM's are always interesting and would love to see the shorts take a hit, also I've noticed Bitcoin has held to a pretty steady slow increase over the past few weeks despite the hits it has taken.
Most likely the differences among the criminal hired guns attacking Syria is something we've encouraged to some extent, we probably just expected them to win before they started fighting amongst themselves. If they were to win, they would be far easier to control by pitting them against each other and playing the middle man. Syria has just been a lot stronger than expected, but then the population has seen the scenario play out in Iraq and Libya so perhaps they've decided to pull together instead of fracturing.

I agree with your thoughts on Syria - the islamic fighters have turned off other longer term rebel fighters as well as the folks they are allegedly liberating. Folks wondering if they should careful what they ask for ? I think so - Assad looking better by comparison ? Probably to a degree , heck even Israel wondering out loud whether it makes more sense to keep him in weakened state as compared with having their own Libya state of affairs right next door !
Hi Fred, good clear thinking on your part as usual. Yes bitcoin has been riding under the radar while but then again, there is a limited supply, maybe they don't have the firepower to push it around all the time. Pm's are always interesting, I would think at some point they would just throw in the towel because demand for physical doesn't seem to be affected.

Regarding Bitcoin , just saw a piece at B.I , posted below discussing stability for Bitcoin ( for now )..... I think the problem with Bitcoin remains its weak link virtual markets ( like Mt Gox ) , which have started coming under pressure from Government Agencies for tax evasion / money laundering type " concerns " . Of course if a currency is basically a means for exchange of value , any currency could fall in that basket of concerns ( do we hear concerns regarding dollar , pound or euro - in regard to the reason given to put the vise clamps on Bitcoin ? ) ) You know the answer to the rhetorical question.....

I walk the beach here on Puget Sound a lot, so far I haven't seen any tsunami debris from Japan and all the sea life looks normal. At low tide, all the clams are out there squirting and the shore birds are busy doing what they do. I see bald eagles all the time, up in the trees or out on the sand bars snacking on tidepool treats. A month ago I saw one swoop down and grab a salmon and it took off, trying to get altitude with the extra weight, the seagulls were chasing behind making their wonderful seagull calls.
ReplyDeleteI go out on the fishing pier all the time too just for the walk and check out the sealife.There's a lot of baby shiner pearch this year,thousands. All the seaweeds look normal, the barnacles and mussels,anemonies on the pier supports growing fine,normal.
Down at the dog beach park, the dogs are all having the best day they ever had;swimming,fetching tennis balls, running around being dogs ,, nothing out of the ordinary there.
If I didn't know about the Japan earthquake/tsunami and the Fukushima disaster there would be no way of knowing it observing things down at the waterfront. So far, everything looks quite normal and it's still a great place go for a walk and enjoy the beauty;the smells, and sounds of the great outdoors.

Good morning NW, that sounds like a beautiful place to live. Hard to believe it's been over 2 years since the big Fuk started, it's nice to know there is at least no visible effects on your area. Even Japan must currently be only showing limited effects because even though I read about the various health problems, it doesn't sound like it's widespread, only localized areas. Still from what I understand the doses are cumulative and of course the damn reactors are still spewing mass amounts of radiation so I'm sure you are doing what you can to limit exposure.

Happy Memorial Day NW and Kev ! It's been cool this weekend but at least we didn't get 34 inches of snow here in the Philadelphia area like Whiteface , New York ! Glad to hear things are still normal appearing in the Puget Sound area with no signs of changes to the environment. I think unfortunately , the impact will start to gradually become apparent as more time passes and debris and radioactive contaminants follow the prevailing currents - whether that shows up in Washington State or further south ( California ) will depend on how the debris / contaminants are moved across the Pacific and interact with the West Coast....

You know I'm not a fan of Buffet per se - however , in this specific role , he would be good. Evening Kev - I checked the asteroid link ( closest it gets to earrh is 5.8 million kilometers or 15 times the distance between earth and the moon . Relatively speaking , not that close. In comparison , DA 14 ( the Asteroid that passed by in February and pieces came into the atmosphere in Russia , came within 17, 200 miles of earth ! Close enough for the earth to slightly change DA14's orbit ! )

I understand your point regarding Syria - have hammered on how this War has been sold hard , inconvenient truths about whom we are supporting there are repressed by the Administration / Congress / major media on the whole. Amen NW, I think the main point is to destroy the middle eastern countries and break them down to smaller tribes that are easy to control with money and weapons because they distrust each other. Money is easy, we just print it and it's always possible to kill a few people and blame it on the other guys to keep the distrust alive. Definitely not something a good country would do but seems like it's standard procedure for the banker/corporate controlled country we now live in. So I don't think that the current results in Libya, Iraq, Eygpt, etc. are failures for the bankers. Not yet anyway, in fact I bet they are patting themselves on the back. Afganistan may be in question for them but they are able to export a lot of heroin so not a total loss. Syria surviving would be a real threat to them though, I can't see Assad just going back to minding his own business if he survives this. I would think he would want a little payback.

Turks are fed up - and not just with Erdogan foisting the Syrian rebel cause onto Turks ( which has already resulted in blowback in Turkey - some say caused by the very Rebels Erdogan has supported , who hope to further draw Turkey into the War going on in Syria. ) The protests also stem from the policies pushed by Erdogan and his islamic party - folks are fed up and I'm wondering if a Mena moment is brewing - how ironic for such a thing to break out there . Japan had a massive fail last night ! PM Abe gave what was supposed to be his bit third arrow talk - and that was laughed down hard as equities in Japan fell more than 700 point intraday , despite quite a few support efforts ! Comex has been a tad peculiar lately - in particular JP Morgan . There is a lot of gold that should be removed from both their Eligible and Registered accounts , which has not been removed - this would be not just for May contract , but also June contracts that have been posted. ReplyDeleteRegarding Snowden , I hope for his sake , he planeed out the rest of life carefully . He's correct that he won't be returning to the US except to spend many years in a Super Max facility. An interesting location to surface as a whistleblower ( Hong Kong ) , I'm sure he thought through how that would be interpreted back here ( already the chatter is starting that this incident was chinese espionage ) , his comments reflect some sympathy toward China / the views China is not an enemy of the US .....So , the questions in my mind include : Is Snowden under de facto Chinese protection in Hong Kong ? Will the CIA render him anyway ? Did Snowden drop hints in his interview that he has other goodies which will be leaked / turned over to foreign powers if there is any attempt to grab him or harm his family in the US ?
Hi Fredw, I did read that our Hong Kong extradition treaty doesn't cover political crimes so he may be safe over there. It's a shame that he has to hide, I think he's a real patriot. It will be interesting to see what else comes out.

Morning all, in response to Fred's June 11 questions. IMHO, the bad guys, some of the worst ever based on body count. I can't think of a legitimate war that we've been in since WW2, all of the others have been to benefit one corporation or the other so that is a lot of dead innocents. Plus all the dead from our constant replacement of 3rd world governments with corporate friendly dictators and the destabilization of many countries that has led to famines, etc. Not nice, but I'm sure all in the "Interests" of someone.

Yesterday I re-registered on the list at the equipment operators union which I am in, I have to do that every 90 days to stay on the list. In Dec when I did that , I was #500, March #490,yesterday #380. That basically means they're not going to call me this summer. I've only worked 25 days since 6/'09, my unenjoyment ran out 15 months ago and I'm canibalizing my savings to exist.

More gardening, hunting, fishing, use mostly homemade rocket stoves to heat in the winter and maybe turn the air off in the summer and live in the basement. I've got more ideas like that from this book, it's interesting and pretty informative, and it's free possum living
It's not much and I know the thing that would screw me would be health insurance. So I will be keeping you in my thoughts.

ReplyDeleteI'm still looking to buy a small solid house with property to grow food and make my stand. The number of units comming on the market seems to be slowing down again, but there's still some good deals out there.
I've been using my time off to learn, reading on the internet and books. Lately I've been obsessed with the Solar Cycle, it's connections to weather/climate,and how our solar system's planetary rotation effects the cycles. I knew nothing about all that till the 3/11 Japan quake and continue to learn more everyday.
The Solar cycle is based on the 11.8 year orbit of Jupiter,which is right now(today) behind the sun. The only big solar event we've had this year is when Murcury crossed between Venus and the sun. Next week, Murcury crosses between us and the sun and Jupiter will be slightly to the right a few degrees. I'm interested to see how the sun will react to that ;-) To check out the planetary rotation, download SimSolar I listed above.
Another fun fact I learned this morning is the solar polar shift has occured quite recently indicating the maximum of the current cycle 24 which is 60% smaller than the last cycle thus far.
I was laid off when I found Nate's blog a few years ago,at the time I was obsessed with learning about derivatives and the economy in general. It's all been a wild ride since then,think of all the subjects we've covered in depth, all in the pursuit of knowlage, truth,and liberty. I'm glad I stuck around and got to learn all the things I did here.

Morning Kev - I think the takeaway from whistle blowers coming forward now about TWA flight 800 is just the mere fact that whistle blowers have come forward ! By that , I'm hopeful some day whistle blowers will come forward regarding 9/11 and force the truth into the sunlight ( whether it's a military / contractor or governmental source who can't live with the lies any longer ! And that applies to other events we have considered - the mass shootings in Newtown , the Boston bombing , Aurora and other alleged sole gunman shootings - whistle blowers will come forward and perhaps that will be because of the example of Edward Snowden !

And the degree equities here in the US are a total sham can be seen by the muted response to a global rout in equities / bonds , FX and commodities - muted is the best way to describe what's happening today ! Meanwhile August gold is 72 bucks down at about 1301 ! Recall all of the talk about the commercials going long from the Commitment of traders recently ( and my doubts about whether the data reflected reality ) , well , if we go back to the so called point where the commercial allegedly went long - gold is down more than a hundred bucks so far which would mean the commercials who went long are getting smoked ! What I do think has been set up is another massive April type " sale " of gold and silver - which we should see play out perhaps as soon as next week ! And that's when we find out how much gold really exists at Comex and the GLD ETF because the physical is going to be called home by its owners !

My thought was that the coincidence was both Obama and G w Bush both being in Tanzania - at the same time ! Regarding Hil being out of the country , I didn't see anything placing her out of the country in the timeframe we are talking about ( she did visit France , Japan , Egypt et al during the span of July 5 - 17th 2012 while still the Secretary of State ) , not sure where one would find her schedule as a private citizen and a quick search didn't show trips to Egypt or France during the next few weeks !

Risk off has led to further selling of gold and silver today ( plus , 25 percent COMEX margin hike effective as of close of business Friday kicked in ) , end of quarter cash raising also an issue , chinese liquidity issues discussed above also a factor. Next few days should be interesting as June options close Tuesday - we shall see whether paint taping causes further selling as traders may want to not show gold or silver on their books at the end of month / quarter ! Sooner or later JP Morgan has to settle all of these contracts or else there must be a default at Comex by JP Morgan !

JP Morgan still hasn't filled those May and June contracts , as Harvey Organ has relentlessly pounded away for about the last two weeks in his daily commentary ! Gold has fallen as low as 1224 , while silver down to 18.44 - yet miracles abound as Hong Kong shot higher ( although Nikkei and Shanghai Exchanges were lower ) and Europe is green again ! US futures higher again although the ten year isn't impressed by the games . Recall - there are no markets , just manipulations ! Looks like the 1151 gold call by 7/17 from Larry Edelson has possibilities ......

DeleteThen Iran, Iraq ,Syria made a deal to transit Iran NG to EU backed by Russia.
But, since the large oil fields in the Caspian turned out to be NG, BP moved in to develop the NG and gave Nabucco a new NG source. However an alternate route was proposed through Greece and Italy-TAP, and that's what they went with.
The main plan of it being to cut Russia out of the NG loop from Iran or the Azerbaijan Caspian NG fields to EU. That's why they crashed the Soviet Union in the first place, first for the Caspian oil,, and now it's morphed into a NG corridor pissin match with Syria in the heavy splash zone.
If you read the book, 'The Oil and the Glory' , you really get a good perspective of the region and the history of the battle for resources. Russia built the first "off-shore" oil drilling operation in the Caspian Sea, Lenin and Stalin both played large parts there. Oil field/pipeline deals made there and broken are exactaly what have been going on for over a century.SOS.
Is it all a done deal ? Hardly. Russia backing down ? Doubt it, but that's a known ubknown. Just have to see what happens, eh ?

All interesting stuff but the templates for more bail ins was the most interesting this morning. The one article reminded me of Monty Python :) It won't be funny when the next bail ins start though.

Morning Kev - since we know everything is downloaded , stored and sorted by big brother anymore , what the heck ! PMs remain a captured market - yesterday was a good case in point. Yanked downward to 1180 in Asian trading , then we saw a rip upward because of " consumer confidence " being better than expected ? One point I would offer as something to keep in mind , when they discuss the bail -in regimes , these rudimentary plans ( which still need Parliamentary approval , won't apply until 2017 or 2018 ! So , what are the rules of the road when something goes sideways and the need for asset grabs arise in the interim ? My thought is that we remain in anything goes territory .

DeleteRegarding gold and silver - I'm not sure what to think what the low may be or when a low may occur. If Harvey Organ is correct and JP Morgan has yet to settle May and June contracts ( I wonder how that could be correct for May at this point without a default having occurred ) , then it would seem something has to give there . Commitment of Trader reports for the past two weeks reflect Commercial net short positions getting smaller for both gold and silver ( does that include or exclude JP Morgan ) , yet that didn't prevent major downward yanks the past two weeks !
Unless the US and / or Israel decides to intervene in a very serious manner in Syria , Assad will win a grinding War of attrition - Qatari mercs or not . Saudi weapons or not . US light arms or not ..... The rebels need a major no fly zone covering Homs / Aleppo , Turkey / Syria border areas , Jordan / Syria border areas ...... the rebels need US / Israel / Nato jets bombing the heck out of Syrian government tanks / shutting down Syrian government airpower and taking out Syrian government defenses ! Or else Assad will win a slow grinding War of attrition.

Egypt recently became a Net oil importer. The profit from oil to buy food went bye bye. Now they have to buy oil and food, a double whammy and their population is growing too which doesn't help.
ReplyDeleteThey need to figure out how to convert to a solar/NG economy and provide irrigation to grow more food. If they can't figure that out, they can't support their population without going into terminal debt which is where they are going now.
But that's a Global prob too. Last year for every barrel of oil consumed, $90.00 of debt was created. So really, oil was $200.00 per barrel ave last year and somebody someday is sposed to pay that debt back. Who is going to pay it ? Our kids kids ?
US was more expensive, last year for every barrel burnt, $190.00 debt was created. Hear any big talk about changing our habits to fix that ? No. It's party on, fracking will save us. Haaaa,, fracking is like licking the margarita class to get the last drops of sweet stuff you couldn't get with a straw.
You problbly didn't listen to the JHK/JB podcast above but with the existing US oil decline rate at a 10%, we have to replace ALL existing wells in 10 years. The new frac wells have a major decline rate in ONE year, so soon we'll have to replace ALL our wells EVERY year. Where would we do that ? Only in hopiated Hollywood science fiction propaganda fantasy land..

Morning, I had read about the decline rate of the fracked wells, makes me wonder how they even break even on those. The decline in oil production world wide is going to bring some changes, the economy really runs on energy not money so I don't expect the changes will be pleasant.

Oil became unaffordable in '08 , the changes aren't something that will happen, but already have and are happening. Line up all the people on food stamps in the US, it goes six times accross the nation, ask them how $100 a barrel oil is going for them. Also ask them "What year was US peak oil production?" How many could give the correct answer? Probably around slim to none. Guaranteed most would say"Party on, fracking will save us " They have no idea why the economy is junk. Why ? If you don't know there IS a problem, how is it possible to address the problem ? That then becomes the problem itself.

DeleteOn Egypt , political instability since the first revolution against Mubarak has presented following concerns : tourism - largest source of foreign currency has been pummeled understandably ; decline in tourism monies has coincided with fall in egyptian pound ; Egypt has been negotiating a 4.8 loan from the IMF since 2011 - Egypt has refused to agree to conditions / terms imposed by IMF to secure loan ; debt has swelled while foreign reserves have shrunk considerably ; due to the above , Egypt has been held hostage to not just US , but Saudis and Qatar for survival funding - recent events suggest GCC will be primary funding source moving forward.....
Oil is interesting - despite Iran largely out of the global market , the market doesn't seem to have any issues with supply. Between slowing global economies , more and different sources of supply coming on line ( Canada tar sands , fracking here in the US , Iraq being a bigger player ) , price seems more driven by geopolitical and financial engineering issues rather than supply and demand. Here in the US , I don't see changes in driving habits generally whether gas is 3 bucks or 4 bucks - folks will drive their cars and note truck / bigger car sales have recovered ? Go figure ....On fracking , unless the sheeple live near a fracking site , sheeple don't care ( if they even know what fracking is. ) Can we replace wells as needed - don't know to be frank - guess we shall see !

Morning Kev - regarding Egypt , at the least , the US invested a lot of capital ( political and financial ) in the Muslim Brotherhood and President Morsi - and with the coup , that capital has been lost. Of course , as the great game there unfolds , we have to wait and see how things ultimately play out. However , the fact that the US threatened to pull foreign aid if Morsi was deposed leads me to believe this huge pie in the face was quite unwelcome and hugely opposed by the White house. Twice in two years we have been viewed as being on the wrong side of history , at least from the viewpoint of the Arab street ( and Egyptian street in particular. )

You can see their oil exports peaked at around 1995, but their consumption continued to clime at previous rate until they became a net exporter in 2011. In 2012 their oil IMPORTS went up 282%.
When their oil exports were booming, there was money to buy FOOD, people were partying,the population boom was on and it put them into overshoot. Now they have to convert to a Solar/NG economy and increase food production and the population will balance to that.
The smart ones already migrated to a climate more suitable for habbitation.The one's that stayed and are protesting for more free stuff better wake the fluck up.
Attention people of Egypt:Your oil export money to buy FOOD went bye bye,you fucked too much and now you don't have enough FOOD because you live in the DESERT,, that is all.
